Today I want to explain what Squidoo modules are and what they are used for.  This is our second edition of Blog Blueprints: Squidoo.  After you have registerd an account with Squidoo and want to start building your lens, you will use what is called modules to create this blog.

You will notice that when you enter your Dashboard to create your lens, you will see where you can add modules.  There are so many to choose from!  Don’t worry though, you will find the ones that suit you best.  You will have your favorites, and can change them up from lens to lens.

Having a call to action at the end of your lens will help direct your visitors to another website, blog, product etc. You are showing them where to go next, what action to take. There are several great modules you can use for this purpose.

Now in your Dashboard on the right, you will see that you can reorder these modules.  You will be able to add or take away the number of them or to remove them all together.  Keep in mind, when I started I thought reordering modules meant I had to pay something!  LOL  It’s free!  =)

I have been getting many questions lately on what Squidoo is or how to use it.  So, you can use this as a guide to help you get started:

Squidoo is a blogging site that allows anyone and everyone to use their format to blog.  It is a little different than some of the ones you may have seen.  It is addictive!  It is one of the coolest things to work with and also to see what others have created.

You do get to be creative, but there are so many options, especially for anyone that is new to the site or even to blogging.  They have templates that you can choose from, and the more lenses you create, the more templates get added on to your account!  More on that later…

So, you are wondering what a lens is.  When I first started blogging, I thought that meant a camera lens.  I thought what do I have to do with that?!  A lens is what Squidoo calls their blogs.  There are a LOT of little Squidoo-isms if you will that you will see as you venture through their site.

If you are wanting to get your information out to the world, or a specific group of people, and/or are a marketer, using Squidoo is a great way to do it.  It also has lots of authority with the search engines, meaning you will have a great chance at ranking well!

After you sign up and register an account with Squidoo, you will be able to start creating your first lens!  If you are not new to Squidoo, you already know what great tools are available to you.

Just make sure that you read their terms of service.  There are topics that you can not blog about.  Your whole account could get suspended or deleted.  You will have to remember this with any free blogging site, you don’t own it, so they make the rules, but if you follow them, you will do great!

There are many different blogging formats that you can ultimately use to create your own blog blueprints.  Some of the more popular choices are WordPress, Blogger, Squidoo, and TypePad, to name a few.

They all have free versions or trial periods, but you must abide by their rules (terms of service) or you could end up with a suspended account or terminated for good.  One of the biggest issues tend to be affiliate links, so for you marketers out there, make sure that you do read up on the TOS for that blogging format.
